Five Colorado Trims From WT to ZR2: Which Fits Your Alberta Work

If you're shopping for a midsize truck in Alberta, the 2026 Chevrolet Colorado deserves a close look. This truck balances work capability with daily comfort, handling everything from job sites to weekend adventures. Here's what you need to know before you visit McDonald Chevrolet Buick GMC Ltd in Taber.

What Is the 2026 Chevrolet Colorado?

The Colorado is Chevrolet's midsize pickup, positioned between compact trucks and full-size models like the Silverado. It seats five passengers and comes in five trims: Work Truck, LT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2. Every Colorado sold in Canada features four-wheel drive and the same TurboMax 2.7L engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2026 model year features new wheel options, appearance packages, and a ZR2 Lift Kit. The core truck remains unchanged from the 2025 redesign.

Who is this truck for?

The Colorado fits work truck buyers needing capable pickups for job sites, families wanting truck utility without full-size fuel consumption, weekend adventurers requiring off-road capability, and daily drivers seeking comfortable, tech-equipped trucks that are easier to park than a Silverado.

Trim Breakdown: Which Colorado Is Right for You?

Work Truck: Built for buyers who need capability without paying for unused features. Includes the full TurboMax powertrain, four-wheel drive, and Chevy Safety Assist. The cabin features vinyl seats and manual climate control. The WT Convenience Package II adds an 8-way power driver seat, driver seat power lumbar, 4-spoke wrapped steering wheel, EZ lift and lower tailgate, StowFlex Tailgate, and Locking Cylinder.

LT: Adds comfort and technology with cloth seats, eight-way power driver seat, and dual-zone climate control. The LT Convenience Package bundles wireless charging, heated seats, LED lighting, adaptive cruise control, HD Surround Vision, and rear pedestrian alert. Ideal for both work and daily driving.

Trail Boss: Built for off-road capability straight from the factory with a two-inch factory lift, wider stance with wheel flares, off-road suspension, two-speed transfer case, skid plates, hill descent control, and Flexride mode system. The Trail Boss Convenience Package II adds an 8-way power driver seat, driver power lumbar, remote starter, wireless charging, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, 4-spoke wrapped steering wheel, and Evotex seats.

Z71: Balances on-road refinement with off-road capability. Includes LED lighting, two-speed transfer case, off-road suspension, and leather-appointed seats. The Z71 Convenience Package III adds driver memory settings, rear center armrest, driver seat back pocket, heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and perforated leather-appointed front seats.

ZR2: The most capable Colorado for serious off-road use. Features a three-inch factory lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, wider chassis, electronic locking front and rear differentials, and aggressive off-road bumpers. Ground clearance reaches 273 mm (10.73 inches). The ZR2 Bison Edition adds AEV stamped-steel bumpers, 35-inch tires, hot-stamped Boron steel skid plates, and Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers.

Power and performance: one engine, serious capability

Every Colorado uses the TurboMax 2.7L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine delivers strong acceleration for highway merging, and the 430 lb-ft of torque provides low-end grunt for towing and hauling. The eight-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and holds gears when you need power.

Fuel economy

EnerGuide estimates: Work Truck, LT, Trail Boss, and Z71 achieve 13.6 L/100 km city and 10.7 L/100 km highway. The ZR2 gets 14.1 L/100 km city and 13.8 L/100 km highway, reflecting its larger tires and off-road-focused suspension.

Towing and payload

Payload capacity varies by trim: Work Truck and LT (4WD) offer 1,700 lb (771 kg), Trail Boss 1,570 lb (712 kg), Z71 1,590 lb (721 kg), and ZR2 1,310 lb (594 kg).

The Advanced Trailering Package (standard on Trail Boss and Z71, available on Work Truck and LT) includes an automatic locking rear differential, integrated trailer brake controller, and Trailering App with hitch guidance, trailer tire pressure monitoring, and trailer light testing.

Off-road capability

The Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 include hill descent control for maintaining controlled speed on steep descents. The ZR2's electronic locking differentials provide maximum traction on technical trails.

Chevy safety assist

Every Colorado includes Chevy Safety Assist as standard: Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.

The Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control, HD Surround Vision, and rear pedestrian alert. Underbody cameras (available on Z71 and ZR2) provide forward and rearward views for navigating obstacles.

Connectivity

All trims include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Bose Premium Audio System is included with the Technology Package on Z71 and ZR2 trims. SiriusXM is available with a 3-year subscription. OnStar One provides connected services for three years.

Practical features

The StowFlex Tailgate (standard on LT and above) includes a lockable storage compartment. The spray-on bedliner is standard on ZR2 and available on all other trims. Other available bed features include 120-volt bed-mounted power outlet, cargo tie-down rings, bed-mounted sport bar, and the Utility Wall Package with modular storage panels.

The crew cab seats five passengers with room for three adults in the back seat. Available comfort features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, and power-sliding rear window.
